When Rest Is Your Best AI Superpower
Your next big idea might show up after you step away.

I’ll be on vacation for the next few weeks, the first one I’ve taken in YEARS. Am I worried I’ll fall behind? Yes. But I’ve also realized that keeping my health and wellbeing at the top of the list matters more than trying to keep pace with AI’s ridiculous speed.
As marketers, we’re on the front lines of AI adoption, and it’s taking a toll. We simply can’t keep up with machines that never need rest and can process billions of pieces of data in seconds. Trying to match their pace isn’t just exhausting, it’s unsustainable.
And here’s something I’ve always told my students: you don’t come up with your best and most creative ideas at your desk. For me, it never happens there. My best ideas show up when I’m away, usually in my happy place - walking my dog, Betty, by the river.
So whatever your happy place is, go there. Give yourself that space. Because rest isn’t time lost, it’s where the real ideas usually begin.
No newsletter for a few weeks but I’ll be back in September with your weekly dose of AI marketing mastery.
🔥 This Week's Hot Takes: AI Marketing Edition
Operationalizing generative AI for marketing impact (MarTech) – MarTech drops a comprehensive guide showing how AI is moving beyond simple tools to full-process augmentation. The key insight? Success requires mapping processes BEFORE integrating tools, with the most successful implementations focusing on high-volume, rule-based workflows like lead scoring and content personalization.
The AI Content Marketing Safety Framework 2.0: Trust But Verify in the Age of Smarter AI (Lisa Peyton) – Great news: newer AI models have reduced hallucination rates to under 2%! However, content marketers can’t ignore that pesky remaining 2%. I share my updated 3-step safety framework using meta-prompting and cross-verification between different AI models.

Why generative AI can't seem to help marketers build their brands (Digiday) – While AI excels at performance marketing with clear metrics, it's struggling with brand building. The problem? Brand marketing's longer feedback loops and fuzzier outcomes make it harder to train AI tools. Agencies are building proprietary solutions to bridge this gap.
Why AI-Driven Marketing Is No Longer Optional (Entrepreneur) – McKinsey data shows AI-powered personalization increases marketing ROI by 10-30%, with 65% of consumers citing targeted promotions as key purchase drivers. The message is clear: companies not adopting AI marketing will struggle to compete.
Creators hire AI like interns as they look to save costs on the creative process (Digiday) – Many creators now use AI in their workflows, treating tools like ChatGPT as research assistants, copyeditors, and even contract reviewers.
Eager to Embrace AI, Marketers Struggle With the How (Adweek) – Adweek survey reveals the biggest barrier to AI adoption is lack of skills and know-how. While 80% of marketers are confident about implementing AI, over 20% say their companies offer no AI training at all.
AI helps marketing and sales pros work smarter, but does it drive revenue? (MarTech) – According to a MarTech survey conducted with General Assembly, 68% of sales and marketing pros use AI at work, yet 61% say they aren’t confident it’s driving revenue. While 67% report AI frees up time for strategic work, only 17% received comprehensive, job-specific training—creating real risks in governance and brand safety.
MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing (Fortune) – MIT's bombshell report reveals most enterprise AI initiatives stall with no measurable P&L impact. Success factors? Purchasing AI tools vs building internally, and empowering line managers rather than central AI labs.
